Rules for using novquill: book analysis, character chat, subscriptions, and responsibilities.

1. Acceptance
By using novquill.com, creating an account, or uploading materials, you confirm that you have read, understand, and agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Paid features may be subject to additional billing terms shown on the pricing page.
2. The service
novquill is an online service to upload book texts (currently .txt), extract characters, and chat in their voice using language models. Character replies are for entertainment and exploration; the service does not replace reading the original, is not a publisher, and does not guarantee accurate quotes or biographical facts.
3. Registration and account
Uploading your own books and saving results requires an account. You agree to provide a valid email and keep access secure. The service is not intended for users under 16 without parental or guardian consent. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
4. Your content and copyright
By uploading text, you confirm you have the right to use it (personal copy, rights-holder permission, or other lawful basis). You retain rights to your content. You grant novquill a limited license to process the text solely to operate the service: analysis, storage in your account, character replies, and related features (portraits, export). We do not claim ownership of your books or publish them without your explicit action (e.g. a public link you enable).
5. AI and limitations
Analysis and chat are generated automatically; errors, fiction, and canon drift may occur. Do not treat character replies as legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice. Unlawful content, violence promotion, sexual exploitation of minors, and other illegal material is prohibited. See the AI Policy for details.
6. Plans and payment
Some features require a subscription (Reader, Storyteller, Librarian, etc.; see Pricing). Payment is processed by Stripe; novquill does not store full card details. Subscriptions may renew automatically until cancelled in your account or via the Stripe Customer Portal. Refunds follow applicable consumer law and the payment provider’s policy at purchase. Usage limits (analyses, messages, portraits) are described in each plan and may change with notice.
7. Prohibited use
You may not: bypass limits or technical restrictions; scrape or harvest data without permission; attempt to hack or disrupt the service; impersonate others; distribute malware; use the service for spam or unlawful advertising; resell access at scale. We may suspend or delete accounts for violations.
8. novquill intellectual property
Design, code, logo, the novquill name, and original service materials (excluding your uploaded texts) are protected by copyright and belong to the service owner. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license for personal use under these Terms.
9. Privacy
Personal data processing is described in the Privacy Policy. By using the service, you also agree to it. You may request account and data deletion by emailing hello@novquill.com.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted operation or data retention in force majeure or third-party failures (hosting, AI providers, payments). To the maximum extent permitted by law, novquill is not liable for indirect damages, lost profits, or harm from relying on AI replies. Aggregate liability for paid services is limited to fees paid in the last 12 months.
11. Termination
You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may restrict or terminate access for Terms violations, legal requirements, or service shutdown with reasonable notice when possible. After deletion, data is removed within timeframes in the Privacy Policy, subject to backups and legal obligations.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The current version is always on this page with the update date. Material changes for registered users may also be sent by email or shown in the product. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the new version.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by applicable law where the operator is established and where you live, including mandatory consumer protection rules. Disputes should first be resolved through good-faith negotiation; if that fails, in courts as required by applicable law.
